We raced against other SoCal schools in slalom, giant slalom, super gs, dual slalom, and boardercross. The races were every other weekend at Mammoth Mountain. We would drive up (6 hrs) on Friday evening, party Friday night, race on Saturday, party Saturday night, race on Sunday, and drive home on Sunday night. (I haven't tried halfpipe yet.) I even raced in 80 mph winds that actually closed the chair lifts. The UCSB team took first place overall. We also damaged most of the furniture in our rented house, froze the pipes once, had two parties broken up by the Mammoth police, and earned a $200 ticket for off-roading in a school Suburban. |
